Sziget festival will not take place this year

Written by on 26.05.2020

Dear citizens of the Island of Freedom,

We are very grateful for the patience and support that you have provided during this difficult period.

The Hungarian government has just extended its ban on large-scale events until August 15th 2020 and, due to this, we must inform you with great regret that the Sziget festival will not take place this year.

The Sziget festival has always been unique thanks to the atmosphere that you yourselves create, and we are very sad that we will not be able to see each other on the Island of Freedom this summer. Sharing this unforgettable week with you is something that gives us strength throughout the year and, despite the fact that our whole team has worked hard to prepare for the festival, this Island of Freedom adventure will have to be postponed until 2021. However, we believe that this decision is best as regards your safety and that of everyone who works at our festival.

We now ask for patience while we, together with our ticket partners, prepare the response for all our ticket buyers. We will email you all the details as soon as we can.

The Sziget festival began as a small event, yet over the past 28 years it has grown into an indestructible family of Szitizens from around the world. Although we will not be able to meet this year, we remain with you in spirit, and we know that the strength of our community will help us in this!

We look forward to seeing you next year on the Island of Freedom!

And remember – you can’t cancel love!

Take care and stay in touch,

The Sziget Team
